EA's 2008 space-set survival horror (and its 2011 sequel) might not have been the most original idea ever - but it's brilliantly done. All the classic elements are there, including the dimly lit corridors and horrific monsters that jump out at you from the darkness. But while the shock of the first time you encounter one of the 'Necromorphs' - hideously deformed, alien-infected dead bodies - will make you jump, it's the spookily atmospheric sound effects that really make it frightening.
