Apple's mapping service, which replaced Google Maps on the iOS 6 update, continues to be mocked by social media users after a number of flaws and inaccuracies were discovered in it following its launch on Thursday.  The native mapping service, designed to challenge Google's dominance of the market, contains a number of faults, some of the most notable of which include a non-existent airport in Ireland, an apparent failure to include Sweden's second largest city, Gothenburg, outdated place names and mislabeled monuments.

Twitter users have been quick to mock Apple on September 21, the launch day of the iPhone 5. User Axon Alex dryly tweets, "Thousands will stand in queue for the iPhone 5 today. The same number will be reported missing when they return home using Apple maps"; comedian David Schneider tweets, "Huge queues outside churches, public toilets and the statue of a horse as people head to buy new iPhone using Apple Maps."

Also on the technology theme, microbloggers are trending "AT&T" after the American phone carrier launched a campaign to warn against the dangers of driving while texting. The carrier yesterday held a "No Text On Board" pledge, the latest in its series of anti-driving-and-texting campaigns which began in 2009. So far around 500,000 people have signed up to the pledge and CEO Randall Stephenson released a statement drawing attention to the dangers of texting while driving.
