Twitter index: David Rakoff, Craig Bellamy

Canadian-born, New York-based writer David Rakoff was well known for his non-fiction, and sometimes autobiographical, essays. In addition to publishing several books of essays including Fraud and HalfEmpty,Rakoff was also a regular contributor to publications such as Conde Nast Traveller, GQ and The New York Times Magazine. Rakoff died on August 9 in New York aged 47.

Accounting for two of the top ten worldwide Twitter trending topics today is footballer Craig Bellamy, who, it has just been announced, has finalized a transfer agreement from his former English Premier League club Liverpool to Cardiff City FC, which plays in the Championship (one level down from the Premiership).
